Indonesia Adopts Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) of Indonesia issued several decrees that allow the launch of wireless Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 technologies operating in the 6 GHz frequency band.

In the beginning of 2025, Komdigi published the following regulations:

  1. Decree of the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs #2 of 2025 concerning Amendments to the Regulation #2 of 2024 regarding the use of radio frequency spectrum based on class permits.
  2. Decree of the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs #12 of 2025 concerning radio frequency spectrum based on class permits and technical standards for telecommunication equipment/devices for radio local area networks (Radio Local Area Network or RLAN).

Key changes in Decree #2 of 2025

For SRD, the following radio frequency spectrums were added:

  • 315-405 kHz
  • 1700-1800 kHz
  • 5925-6425 MHz (for RLAN use also)
Annex 2, Table 1 (RLAN) additions:
Annex 2, Table 3 (SRD) additions

The Decree of the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs # 12 of 2025 determines the radio frequency spectrum based on class permits for groups of telecommunication equipment and/or telecommunication devices for local radio area networks as follows:

  1. 2400-2483,5 MHz
  2. 5150-5250 MHz
  3. 5250-5350 MHz
  4. 5725-5825 MHz
  5. 5925-6425 MHz
  6. 57-64 GHz

It also determines technical standards for telecommunication equipment/devices for local radio area networks:

These standards help to ensure that devices operating in the 6 GHz frequency band do not interfere with other services.

With the opening of the 6 GHz spectrum, Indonesia has become one of the pioneers in Asia-Pacific region in adopting Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7. This will significantly improve the speed and reliability of internet connections across the country.
