Oman Amends Regulations on Telecommunications Equipment Approval

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Oman has issued new regulations for organizing and approving telecommunications equipment. The regulations became effective on August 21, 2024, and withdraw Resolution No. 59/2015.

Please, note that to market telecommunications equipment, the following documents are required:

A permission that allows the import of telecommunications equipment for commercial purposes, which is issued for the period of 1 to 3 years and cannot be reassigned without the written approval of the Authority.
A type approval certificate that is granted for 4 years. The same period shall also apply to the type approval certificates that have been issued before the Regulation became effective.

The request for the renewal of the type approval certificate for telecommunications devices should be submitted before the expiry date of the certificate. Otherwise, the certificate will be considered canceled.

Additionally, approved equipment should have the approval mark on the outer cover as follows:

The mark contains the Authority’s logo, the QR code indicating the type approval certificate, the name of the Authority, the permission registration number, and the type approval number

Please, be informed that it is prohibited to:

trade in communications devices, such as radio and terminal communications devices, unless their type has been approved by the Authority
import telecommunications devices for commercial purposes unless a permit is obtained
trade in counterfeit communication devices
reprogram any radio communication device, except after obtaining the Authority’s approval

The Authority may withdraw samples of telecommunications devices from the local market to conduct technical tests, at the expense of the owner, if the violation is proven.
