The Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW) in Australia issued new Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Determination 2024 for dishwashers. The standard becomes effective from October 5, 2025. It replaces Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Dishwashers) Determination 2015.

It sets the following requirements with regards to household dishwashers:

• Minimum energy efficiency requirements
• Energy labelling requirements
• Product performance requirements
• Tests conducting requirements

Key changes new version in comparison with the old one is the following:

• Revised and updated referenced standards
• The energy label contains program time in minutes to inform customers about the duration of washing and drying cycles. It helps to choose the most preferable program time
• Includes GEMS level requirements. Information about minimum efficiency requirements helps to detect inefficient dishwashers on the market
• Test procedures became more representative and came close to the requirements of international standards
• The treatment of multi compartment dishwashers is clarified.

The standard focuses also on such performance criteria as rated capacity, washing index and drying index that allows to ascertain the quality and conformance to the requirements of the supplied product.
